Elle fait ses débuts de comédienne dans la série pour enfants Barney & Friends (2002-2004), puis est révélée au jeune public avec son rôle d'Alex Russo dans la série humoristique Les Sorciers de Waverly Place (2007-2012). Elle interprète par ailleurs la voix du personnage Mavis dans les films d'animation Hôtel Transylvanie. Depuis 2021, elle interprète le rôle de Mabel Mora dans la série Only Murders in the Building qui lui vaut une vague de nominations et de récompenses, notamment aux Golden Globes, Emmy Awards et SAG Awards. Pour son rôle au cinéma dans Emilia Perez elle remporte en 2024 le convoité Prix d’interprétation féminine du Festival de Cannes.
